The Label Speaks

Pubs (Public Houses) are a vital component of the fabric of British social and cultural life. They are sanctuaries of civic spirit, sociability and human camaraderie. All Baird Beer Taproom pubs take part of their inspiration from the Public House culture of Great Britain. Our label depicts the essence of this culture of convivial human interaction. The kanji characters on the name plate mean ‘gathering’ (集) and ‘place’ (場). Look real close and you might see the original publicans of the Baird Fishmarket Taproom pulling pints behind the bar.

Bryan's Brewing Notes

Researching, recreating and reintroducing historically classic beer styles is a mission that the brewers of Baird Beer undertake with great joy and zeal. Public House Bitter is our take on the most quintessential of British beer styles – Ordinary Bitter.

The defining ingredients in this light and session-able Bitter are all English: Maris Otter and Caramel malt, East Kent Golding and Fuggle hops. We mash the malt in a classic English single-temperature infusion style. And, in the time-honored tradition of British Real Ale brewing, we prime the beer at packaging to produce a secondary in-package fermentation and all-natural carbonation.

At our brewery-operated Taproom Public Houses we serve the beer the traditional English way, pulling it through our Angram hand pumps and serving it as Real Ale. Please stop in for a pint or three. You will not be disappointed!

Bryan's Comment

“The English Public House experience is about convivial human intercourse facilitated by the enjoyment of several pints of Bitter. To us, enjoyment of a Bitter properly poured in a first rate Public House represents all that is great about beer and pub culture: wonderful flavor, quenching refreshment and meaningful, friendly human interaction.”
