Brew-a-Day June
Howdy, Chris here.
It’s been a few weeks since I’ve had a chance to write a blog — too many things happening inside and outside the brewery during these early days of summer! Hopefully I’ll have more time over the rest of the summer to sit down and type up some interesting things for you all. In the meantime, here’s a quick rundown on what we brewed in June.
6/1 Once again, we started the month with a non-brewing day. Yawn.
6/2: PA-7.13 Seventh batch of Rising Sun Pale Ale for the brew year. (Remember, our brew year starts on April 1.)
6/3: BA-6.13 Angry Boy Brown Ale, sixth batch.
6/4: UFIA-1.13 (sb) UshiTora’s First Impact, small batch, first of the year.
6/5: WA-4.13 Wheat King Ale, fourth batch.
6/6: VHA-1.13 (sb) And Vivo pulls into a tie with the first batch of their House Ale.
6/7: 12YSA-1.13 Today we brewed a batch of 12-Year Summer Ale, our anniversary ale that was released yesterday (as I write) on the first day of our 12th Anniversary Celebration Party down here in Numazu.
6/8: NL-2.13 Numazu lager, second batch.
6/9: PA-8.13 (pb) New yeast in the brewery, so we did a small “propagation” batch of Rising Sun.
6/10: PA-8.13, BA80S-1.13 (sb) Today we added a large batch of Rising Sun to yesterday’s prop batch, and just for fun we brewed a small batch of Bromption Ale for Beer-no-Yokota as well.
6/11-13: WW-1.13a, b, c Three days in a row for West Coast Wheat Wine. Talk about violent fermentation! This year’s version will be better than ever.
6/14: KOL-1.13 Every once in a while, we get an urge to brew a German-style beer. Today was a Kolsch.
6/15: I-5.13 Teikoku IPA, fifth batch of the year.
6/16: DS-2.13, DM-1.13 (sb) The big system saw action with Shimaguni Stout, small system got filled with a Dark Mild.
6/17-19 Three days in a row without brewing! We did, however, clean the brewing systems — all nice and squeaky clean for the upcoming non-stop brewing schedule.
6/20: IIPA-6.13 Suruga Bay Imperial IPA, sixth batch so far this year.
6/21: ABBA-1.13 Fruit in the house! Today, we hand processed a bunch of biwa (loquats) for our Asian Beauty Biwa Ale. We had some left over, so we threw them into the conditioning tank a week later.
6/22: BA-7.13 Angry Boy Brown, seventh batch.
6/25: AA-4.13, NB-1.13 (sb) Another double brew day: Red Rose Amber Ale on the big system, fourth batch, and the year’s first Nakameguro Bitter (best bitter) on the small system.
6/26: WA-5.13 Wheat King for the fifth time!
6/27: P-2.13 Kurofune Porter, second batch since April 1.
6/28: PA-9.13 Rising Sun yet again, ninth time already this year.
6/29: NL-3.13 Let’s keep that lager yeast going with another batch of Numazu Lager.
6/30: TirAle-1.13 (sb) Our friends down in Hamamatsu are running out of their house ale, so we made them another small batch of Tirnanog Ale.
It might seem like we’re slowing down our brewing, but nothing could be further from the truth. We’re pumping out more and more beer every month, and doing it more efficiently than ever. Until our new brewery is up and running in early summer next year, that’s going to mean more hard work and long hours from the brewing team. And we don’t mind as long as you keep drinking — so keep drinking!
Cheers,
Chris
