Baird Beer Seasonal Release Harvest Wheat Wine

November 26, 2003

Dear Taproom Friend & Baird Beer Enthusiast:

Late autumn, at the Baird Brewery, is the season for a very unique Baird Beer Harvest Wheat Wine.

A wheat wine is similar to a barley wine (the granddaddy of all beer styles) except that the base malt is largely wheat rather than barley. The wheat base renders this very big beer lighter and more spritzy than would be the case with a barley base. The brewing of Baird Harvest Wheat Wine also draws on Belgian-style beer tradition in that a significant portion of the fermentable material comes from kettle additions of candy sugar. This serves to dry the beer out and sharpen the alcohol punch. Harvest Wheat Wine undergoes a three-month secondary fermentation and conditioning in the serving keg to which we add ample quantities of Czech Saaz whole hops. Dry hopping with classic European Saaz hops lends a final layer of complexity in the form of an earthy, subtly floral flavor and aroma.

This is a beer not to be missed! It is on tap at the Fishmarket Taproom now so come on in for a glass or a pint.

Reminder: Saturday, December 6 is the evening of our Baird bottle-beer launch party and a few open spots remain. If you are interested in attending, please reserve as space with us as soon as possible.

Cheers,
Baird Brewing Company & Fishmarket Taproom
