Conceptualizing new types of beer, particularly those incorporating unusual or exotic ingredients, and implementing the idea so as to bring it to life in the form of a deliciously intriguing beer, are acts dear and rewarding to the craftsman brewer. Sharing the fruits of the effort with fellow beer enthusiasts is the satisfaction that ices the cake. Our cup of pride and satisfaction runneth over as we announce the debut of Baird Morning Coffee Stout 2006!

Baird Morning Coffee Stout 2006 is formulated to specs similar to a Foreign Export Stout but with one major twist — the addition of fresh coffee beans to the ingredient list. This year, we ground at the brewery and steeped in the whirlpool a Mocha Blend Coffee with beans coming from Brazil, Ethiopia and Indonesia. The result is a java-inspired stout of great depth, complexity and mystery.

Coffee-black in color, Baird Morning Coffee Stout sports a richly latticed creamy tan head from which emanates the roasty and sweetly acrid aromas of mocha coffee. The flavor is rich, robust and expressive in the mouth and yet provocatively stimulating in the finish. The rich sweetness of the mocha coffee is aided beautifully by a blend of highly roasted Chocolate and Black malts, while the stimulating acridity of the java beans is underscored by an ensemble of Nugget, Horizon and Mount Hood hops. Somehow, this mysterious brew is at once both enervating and energizing! What else, though, would one expect from an alcohol and caffeine blended beverage? (Alcohol percentage — approximately 6.5% by volume).

Baird Morning Coffee Stout 2006 will pour from the Fishmarket Taproom taps beginning Friday, March 24. It also will be available both in kegs and bottles from select Baird Beer retailers throughout Japan.
