Dear Taproom Friend & Baird Beer Enthusiast:
Wheat is a crop that man has cultivated since the dawn of agricultural. Beer, too, has traveled the road of history with mankind for nearly as long. While barley is the staple crop ingredient in most beer, wheat too plays a leading role in several prominent styles. Most Baird Beer, in fact, contains at least portions of malted wheat. Today’s Baird Beer seasonal release of Three Musketeers Wheat Ale, however, goes further and features malted wheat as the signature flavor ingredient.
Baird Three Musketeers Wheat Ale derives its name from its incorporation of three different world varieties of malted wheat (English, German and North American). Wheat, as compared to barley, lends what we believe to be a crisply tart and softly fruity character to beer. Moreover, the relatively high content of complex proteins in wheat contribute a robust body and mouthfeel to the final beer. Three Musketeers Wheat Ale is fermented with our standard ale yeast and thus fits stylistically with the genre of beers knows as American Wheat Ales.
Sporting a densely laced head of snow-white foam, Three Musketeers Wheat Ale radiates wholesomeness in turbid hues of orange-gold. The aroma is spryly invigorating, reminiscent of freshly cut flowers and newly peeled oranges. The flavor is marked by an explosion of sweetly tart zestfulness that is underscored by a clean, almost minty bitterness supplied by additions of American Magnum and Perle hops. A vigorous secondary fermentation in the keg provides a spritzy natural carbonation that both excites and cleanses the taste buds. The alcohol percentage is 3.9% by volume.
Three Musketeers Wheat Ale is available only on draught at the Fishmarket Taproom (beginning Wednesday, May 10) and at select Baird Beer retailers. Please plan to join us for a pint or two while supplies last.
Cheers!
