Dear Taproom Friend & Baird Beer Enthusiast:
The diversity inherent in the beer world is spectacular. Craft brewers and aficionados alike revel in the variety of flavor possible in their favorite beverage. Baird Brewing’s celebration of beer diversity continues with the release of two more seasonal brews: West Coast Wheat Wine and Midnight Oil Export Stout.
(1) West Coast Wheat Wine (ABV approximately 8.7%):
Wheat Wine is a beer style born on the U.S. West Coast in the 1980s. It has as its progenitor the English Barely Wine style. A Wheat Wine, generally, is characterized by a massively rich complexity and yet a piquant, almost refreshing effervescence. It is a style representative of the irreverent creativity and unrelenting passion that are the hallmarks of craft brewing on the West Coast of the United States. Baird West Coast Wheat Wine is crafted in homage to the skilled brewing artisans and fearless beer entrepreneurs who have pioneered craft brewing on America’s great West Coast!
This 2006 version of our West Coast Wheat Wine weighs in at an ABV of 8.7%. Fully fifty percent of the base malt is wheat while ten percent of the
fermentable extract is derived from additions to the kettle of Japanese candy sugar. This year we opted to aroma- and dry-hop with a unique combination of earthy English Fuggle and citrusy American Centennial hops. We think you will find the result indescribably compelling.
(2) Midnight Oil Export Stout (ABV approximately 6.1%):
To the experienced beer enthusiast, the style moniker “Stout” is synonymous with “diversity.” While all Stouts share in common a “midnight oil” type of blackness, the flavor permutations existent within this family of beers is incredible. Export Stouts, generally, are rich and roasty, medium-high in alcohol strength, and sporting a fairly pronounced hop character.
The fundamental complexity of Baird Midnight Oil Export Stout derives from a malt base consisting of Maris Otter Pale Ale, North American Wheat, and English Caramel, Chocolate and Roast Barley varieties. The flavor result is a tangy, oily, toasty and roasty carnival of pleasure. A wonderfully spicy hop bouquet punctuates the flavor experience as an exclamation point does a sentence. If you want to be exported to beer bliss, Midnight Oil is your ticket!
Both beers are being poured from the taps of the Fishmarket Taproom
beginning Sunday, November 19. You also can access these wonderful brews through select Baird Beer retailers in Japan beginning Monday, November 20.
Cheers!
Bryan Baird
